Pro gradu -tutkielmani käsittelee huumeiden ja kirjailijoiden luovuuden välistä yhteyttä. Kirjailijat ja alkoholi yhdistetään helposti toisiinsa, ja erityisesti siten, että alkoholi on ollut muusa. Alkoholiin mieltyneiden kirjailijoiden lisäksi historia tuntee myös huumeita käyttäneitä kirjailijoita. Miten huumeet vaikuttivat heidän luovuuteensa? Oliko eri huumeilla erilaisia vaikutuksia? Vai oliko huumeista pikemminkin haittaa luovalle työlle? Tarkastelen neljän hyvin erilaisen kirjailijan päihteidenkäyttöhistoriaa ja tuotantoa. Kirjailijat ovat William S. Tutkin sivututkielmassani millainen 2000-luvun alun vampyyri on ja millainen sen suhde on aiempaan vampyyrikirjallisuuteen ja vampyyriperinteeseen. Tutkielman motivaatio ja tärkeys nousevat omasta kiinnostuksesta vampyyrikirjallisuuteen sekä vampyyrin ja yliluonnollisuuden kulttuurisesta ajankohtaisuudesta. Medicinal plants have always had great value for the human population due to their valuable constituents and potential bioactivities. The objective of this review is to present an updated overview of an important medicinal plant genus Nepeta L., from the family Lamiaceae, revealing its traditional utilization, biological activity, phytoconstituents, and mechanisms of action. For this purpose, a literature survey was carried out by using SciFinder, ScienceDirect, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science followed by a revision of the bibliographies of the related articles. The yeast Wickerhamomyces anomalus has been investigated for several years for its wide biotechnological potential, especially for applications in the food industry. Specifically, the antimicrobial activity of this yeast, associated with the production of Killer Toxins (KTs), has attracted a great deal of attention. The strains of W. anomalus able to produce KTs, called "killer" yeasts, have been shown to be highly competitive in the environment. Different W. anomalus strains have been isolated from diverse habitats and recently even from insects.
